The city of Coronado is a tiny beach town with an island vibe. Established in 1890, this small town has a filled history with outstanding area resources in a rural environment. Bordered by the San Diego Bay and Pacific Ocean, the town provides a distinctive lifestyle relished by residents and international visitors for almost 120 years!
The “island,” the nickname used by the locals, is actually a peninsula linked to the mainland by a stretch of land called the Silver Strand. The town is welcoming, adorned with broad leafy streets encrusted with California bungalows and Victorian homes.
Recognized as one of the most upscale communities of San Diego, the real estate is frequently identified as some of the most sought after in the area. The layout of the town situates most homes close to the beach. Many residents benefit from wide, open years and unique architecture.
Higher learning institutions are nearby like Southwestern College and Point Loma Nazarene University, two public high schools, and three public and three private elementary and middle schools.
One of San Diego’s most notable landmarks is the Hotel Del Coronado. The hotel has a unique design with red roofs and turrets and a fabulous history. At least thirteen presidents have been hosted there and visitors love to wine and dine at the hotel just to catch a glimpse of the rich and famous.
The shopping area is known as the best in the area. Orange Avenue, the main street, is lined with upscale shops and cool beach stores. Kids get a taste of fun as well with a fantastic variety of ice creams for sale. In addition, the Ferry Land Marketplace is a wonderful shopping and eating district as well.
Another thing unique about this small town is it’s “car optional” environment. It’s so small, everything is in walking distance. There are moderate flat paths suited for bicyclists and skaters with additional miles of bike paths along city streets. There is plenty of fun in the sun too. Residents have a choice of swimming, sailing, surfing, bike riding, running, walking, rollerblading, tennis, or golfing.
The beaches are considered some of Southern California’s finest, with miles of special paths where bikers can take in the magnificent scenery. Alternatively, golfers can enjoy a round at the Municipal Golf Course. The flourishing cultural and arts scene is a vibrant part of the community as well. There’s a local community theater-group with respected professional artists, a Museum of History and Art, and the local high school offers a broad range of shows during the year including dance recitals, plays, shows, classical music, and more. Coronado is simply a lovely small town that offers everything conducive to a great lifestyle in superb surroundings.
