San Diego Central refers to the central region of the city of San Diego or “SD,” situated in Southern California along the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Communities that are part of the central area include Normal Heights, North Park, Mission Hills, Clairemont, Kensington, and several more. The area is mostly north of the downtown area of the city, crammed between SD Bay and Mission Bay, which also includes a district inland to the east of Mission Bay.
Most of the communities are small in population and size. The region expands along some of the canyons and mountains that lie directly east of the Pacific shores in Southern California. Close to the district are attractions like the Mission Bay Park, the largest artificial water park in the US and Mission Bay Golf, Sea World, 27-miles of shoreline, Qualcomm Stadium home to the Chargers; the city’s professional NFL team, Cowles Mountain; the highest peak within the city limits, along with an infinite number of smaller communities and various golf courses.
Mission Bay is stunning in itself and is the ecological and geographical motivation of the central area. On many weekends, it’s not unusual to catch water sport aficionados taking part in jet-skiing, wakeboarding, sailing, and camping. Various attractions lure international tourists to this very area with the most popular being Sea World. The marine mammal park includes a number of wildlife species counting a Shark Encounter that submerges guest underwater to experience the animals firsthand. Nonetheless, the orca whales that perform daily are the main attraction at the park.
The central region is also known as a location of junctions and travel. In the center of the city’s busiest sectors and in between the downtown area and North County, the central area is domicile to a host of thoroughfares.
Interstates I-5, I-8, and I-805, all traverse the region at some point. Furthermore, various local highways and state routes divide the area. On the southern border of the central area is the Lindberg Field International Airport, another area full of activity.
Overall, there are a few perks to not living along the coast. For instance, inhabitants will be nearer to Cleveland National Forest, which is an amazing area. In addition, the inland region is less crowded than the majority of places along the coast.
All public K-12 schools are part of the San Diego Unified School District along with several private schools in the area. Higher education includes SD Mesa College, SD State University, and University of California SD.
Hospitals in the region include the Promise Hospital of SD, the Sharp Memorial Hospital, and the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. The district is close to the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
